The Hoot Owl :: Home of Joe Slu

Joe Slu

Here is the article, congrats to Danny and the Hoot...think about it, we have the LAX Bro on Campus!

Lacrosse is as big as it's ever been - from Buffalo to Tokyo, people are picking up sticks and joining the revolution. So what better time to see where it matters most? We scoured the globe for the 10 best lacrosse towns (yes, we're using that term liberally; some of these are more like regions), hoping to find places with a unique blend of great lax culture, successful teams and an ever-growing enthusiasm for the game. Here are our top 5 lacrosse bars.
Best Lacrosse Bars

Far from places just to watch ESPNU, these bars live and breathe the sport

1. Greene Turtle (Fell’s Point) — Baltimore
A Maryland lacrosse institution (from Ocean City to Towson). In Fell’s, lacrosse jerseys, a few IL covers and some sweet old-school postgame party pics (look closely and you’ll spot guys like Petro and Dave Morrow) hang on the walls and it sponsors a great youth team.

2. Baggataway Tavern — Philadelphia
It’s owned by former Wings’ stars Mike French and Scott Gabrielson and the chef is a former referee.

3. Hoot Owl — Canton, N.Y.
Opened and owned by a former lacrosse player, the Hoot Owl is New York's best lax bar.
Opened and owned by a former lacrosse player, the Hoot Owl is New York's best lax bar.
Opened in 1970 by ref and former player Dan Fay, this small-town Northern New York legend has helped produce the careers of John and Ed Fay, Tom Ryan and Marc Morley, in addition to sponsoring youth teams and throwing a huge Thanksgiving fundraiser party.

4. The Blue Goose — Mimico, Ont.
Homebase for the Shanahan brothers, this historic bar (opened in 1909) is a postgame destination for lax players and fans.

5. He’s Not Here — Chapel Hill, N.C.
Thirty-two-ounce beers in Tar Heel blue cups have kept the lacrosse world coming back for more than 30 years.
